SMALL SCARF VIRTUAL EXHIBITION: THE OPENING!

My photo:

My humble contribution to the exhibition of woven scarves: a loom knitted basket weave scarf:

This was done in pink Lion Brand Pound of Love acrylic yarn, and it's very soft and light. The alternating groups of e-wrap and purl stitches create the basket weave pattern. The scarf is a little over 65 inches (162.5 cm) long and about 6.5 inches (16.25 cm) wide. It was knitted on one side of a double rake, also called a knitting board.

A picture of the loom, from CinDWood Crafts:

This scarf will now be donated to Threads of Compassion, which hands out scarves to rape victims throughout the USA and other countries.

Please don't forget to also visit the other SSVE entries from the weavers who welcomed a different kind of loomer to their gallery! You'll find entries from the USA, Canada, New Zealand, and maybe some other countries as well:
Bety Antonio, "Deep End of the Loom", Miami, FL, USA
Terri Bibby, "Weaving a Life", Salt Spring Island, BC, Canada
The Big Gallery

Enjoy the exhibit!

The scarf looks great, I use to board and loom knit and I know that it's tons of fun and challenging.

The baby is adorable just makes you want to squeeze the cheeks.

Ooooh, I may have to look into one of those. Does it go quicker than needle knitting?

That's great - I've never tried loom knitting before...and how wonderful to donate it - someone will be very happy to receive it.

Happy Weaving,
Terri

Yes, loom knitting is much faster than needle knitting! They say crochet is the fastest, then looming, and needle knitting is the slowest. A looming friend of mine went to a craft show and had a booth next to a needle knitter. In a few hours, the needle knitter had only finished a little bit of the project (sorry, don't remember what the project was...), but my friend had a whole scarf and then some...

Also, you may hear that you can't increase, decrease, do cables, etc on a knitting loom, but that's not ttrue. Everything you can do on needles, you can do on a loom. You can also convert needle knitting patterns to the looms, but that takes some know-how... I can do simple ones myself, but nothing like lace or anything, at least not yet!

So now that I've strayed from the scarf... Let me say thanks for looking! :D If you have any questions about the looms, let me know and I'll be happy to help or recommend someone who can!
